There are a few ways you can secure a teaching job with us, which depend on what role you are looking for and the employment opportunities that are available.

So, whether you're looking for casual or temporary jobs (relief teaching) or permanent teaching positions, here's a quick guide to finding and applying for the right one for you.

  • Step 1
Submit your application to our teacher recruitment pool

To teach with the department in any of our Queensland locations or in any capacity, it's mandatory that you submit an application for teacher employment, so you can be considered for vacancies in our state schools.

Let us know you're looking for teaching jobs

Although being in this pool doesn't guarantee employment, it does mean you can be considered and contacted about upcoming positions that match your location and teaching preferences. Apply to teach at any time.

Let us know you're looking for relief teaching jobs

If you select 'casual' as one of your employment preferences on your application, you’ll automatically be added to our Teacher Relief and Contract Employment Register (often referred to as TRACER) the next business day.

More information about TRACER for relief teachers is available on the department’s supply teachers page or by emailing tracer@qed.qld.gov.au.

    Keep your details fresh

Once your application has been accepted, it's a good idea to periodically check that your details are up to date so we can match you to the kind of job you're looking for.

Update your application details at any time by emailing teacherapplications@qed.qld.gov.au.

  • Step 2
Search and apply for permanent and temporary opportunities

From time to time, we advertise on Smart Jobs and LinkedIn with permanent and temporary vacancies. If there's a location, learning phase, or subject area you're interested in, we recommend being proactive and searching and applying for these opportunities directly.

You can also register for SmartJob email alerts and connect with us via our newsletter for the latest vacancy listings, professional development opportunities and more.

  • Step 3
Look locally for your best fit

Although all of our schools have access to the recruitment pool and TRACER (for relief teaching bookings), some principals choose to recruit teachers directly.

If there are specific schools that you would like to teach at, we recommend you connect with principals directly so they also know you’re enthusiastic and available.

You can also contact our regional recruiters to let them know what kind of teaching job you're looking for. Check out the map of our schools to find out where they're located across Queensland.
