Teach Queensland Prac Placement Grant

The new Teach Queensland Prac Placement Grant announced in September 2024, supports preservice teachers to complete their teaching qualification, by providing them with a $5,000 grant to assist with expenses associated with completing their final professional experience placement in any Queensland state school.

Preservice teachers undertaking their final professional experience placement in semester 2 2024, or in 2025 and 2026, will be eligible to apply for the Teach Queensland Prac Placement Grant, when completing their final placement in a Queensland state school.

By undertaking a professional experience placement in a regional, rural or remote Queensland state school, preservice teachers may also be eligible for up to an additional $5,000 in financial support (dependant on the location and length of the placement), through the following programs:​​

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the Teach Queensland Prac Placem​​ent Grant you must:

  • be enrolled in an accredited initial teacher education program
  • undertake a final professional experience placement in a Queensland state school between July 2024 and December 2026
  • complete professional experience placement for a minimum of 15 consecutive school days.

Please note that final professional experience placements undertaken in a Queensland non-state school including Catholic and independent or private schools are not eligible for this grant.

International students who currently reside in Australia and have permission under a Commonwealth Law, to study in Australia, are eligible to apply for this grant. Evidence of a valid visa and passport is to be submitted with the online application. 

Financial assistance

The Teach Qld Prac Placement Grant provides eligible preservice teachers with a grant of $5,000 t​​o assist with placement related expenses.

The Grant will be paid to the preservice teacher as lump sum, following confirmation of eligibility and receipt of required information, such as bank details. Payment of the grant will occur as soon as possible, however may take up to 4 weeks to be processed.

We recommend you keep receipts for placement-related expenses and seek financial advice regarding potential tax implications or impact on your current income and/or benefits received/to be paid.  Employees of the department will have their grant taxed as per the ATO requirements.​

How to apply

Apply now if you are completing—or have completed—your final professional experience placement in a Queensland state sc​hool during term 3 or 4 (8 July to 13 September 2024 or 30 September to 13 December 2024).

Applications close 13 December 2024.

Steps

  1. Access the Teach Queensland Prac Placement Grant online page on the Queensland Government Smart Jobs website. Create a Smart Jobs account if you don't already have one.
  2. ​Provide your personal details.
  3. ​Upload the following documents in the 'resume, cover letter, and other documents section:
    • your current unofficial academic transcript
    • confirmation of enrolment for Semester 2 2024
    • evidence of valid blue card
    • confirmation of your professional experience placement in a Queensland state school, i.e., InPlace or Sonia Online.
  4. ​​ Respond to the questionnaire.
