'Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.'

And while it’s true we don’t call it ‘work’ for nothing, this well-known musing from author Mark Twain is a great piece of advice to find success and contentment in the daily grind.

It’s certainly been an effective approach for 2019 Education Careers Ambassador Lauren Evans, who has put her healthy love of—well, being healthy!—to practice as a Health and Physical Education (HPE) teacher over the last 13 years.

'I had some amazing teachers in high school who inspired me with the love of their subject and their love of learning,' Lauren said.

'I liked the idea that I could make a difference while sharing a passion of mine.'

As an active teenager, Lauren played nearly every sport under the sun and participated in national level swimming and kayaking.

'I learnt the true value of being involved in sport,' Lauren said.

'It teaches you resilience, motivation, teamwork, determination and grit, and these skills can be transferred into other areas of your life.'

Lauren believes that physical, mental and emotional health is central to living well.

'Being a HPE teacher means I can give students an understanding of the importance of a healthy life, and help them create positive habits,' Lauren said.

'You don’t need to be a star athlete to be a great HPE teacher—most of all, you just need to have fun and realise the benefit of living a healthy lifestyle.'

'It’s proven a fantastic career choice for me to get enjoyment and satisfaction from my work.'

Classrooms need someone with enthusiasm and great people skills at the helm. Could teaching be your opportunity to make an impact while doing something you love?

Watch the video below to learn more about Lauren’s journey as a HPE teacher.
