Transitioning from primary to secondary teaching

One of the benefits of a teaching career is the flexibility to develop new skills and engineer a variety of new experiences. One example of this is the ability to transition from teaching primary students to teaching secondary students. It might seem daunting, but you’re not doing it alone. If this is something you’re interested in pursuing, our schools will support you to develop your skills as you make the change.

Brendan’s experience

Primary-trained teacher, Brendan, was looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to progress his teaching career when he accepted an opportunity to become a secondary teacher. In this video, hear how Biloela State High School in Central Queensland supported him to make the change and what he learned through this experience.

Naomi's experience

Primary teacher, Naomi, accepted an opportunity to teach at Dysart State High School in Central Queensland to utilise the skills gained in her former career as a baker. Since then, the team at Dysart SHS have supported her to expand her teaching areas. In this video, she shares her experience and the support she's had access to in making the transition.
