There’s something for everyone when you teach in Queensland state schools. Before you submit your application to teach with us, check out the different types of employment on offer in our schools.
One of the benefits of teaching is your ability to travel and experience different teaching environments. So, if you like to mix things up or want to be considered for all opportunities while you wait for a permanent role, learn about the range of employment options available to teachers in Queensland state schools.
Permanent employment
Permanent employment as a teacher offers a strong foundation for a fulfilling and stable career.
Teachers employed on a permanent basis have greater opportunities to develop deep, lasting relationships with students, colleagues and the school community, contributing to success within and beyond the classroom.
Permanency also offers job security and stability, and access to a
broad range of benefits, leave entitlements and support including professional development and opportunities to
progress your career.
Temporary or contract employment
Temporary teachers are an important part of our workforce as they provide our schools with the flexibility to respond to changing staff and student needs. They also allow schools to address short-term staffing needs, such as maternity leave or unexpected vacancies.
Temporary roles provide teachers with the opportunity to experience different school settings, age groups and subjects which can be highly enriching and can support a greater balance between work with other personal commitments.
Teachers can be employed under a temporary contract for periods of at least five days, in a full or part-time capacity, depending on a school’s needs.
Other opportunities
If a permanent or temporary role isn’t what you need, you can also consider casual and relief teaching which is a great way to fit work into a busy lifestyle or gain some experience in a variety of settings.
