Nazareen
We first met Nazareen in 2017 after she embarked on a new adventure with her partner, moving from the Sunshine Coast to Bamaga in far north Queensland.

When we last met Shirley in 2016, she was in her 32nd year as a teacher. Now 9 years later, with support from the department, family and friends, she has progressed into a principal position at Greenvale State School, a small outback school over 200 km from Townsville. From new playgrounds to lifelong connections, she’s making a real impact.

Priyanka
When we first met Priyanka in 2016, she was teaching at Doomadgee State School. Since then, her teaching journey has taken her to some of Queensland’s most remote communities, from Arukun to Cairns, experiences that have shaped her both personally and professionally. Now, as Head of Department at Gordonvale State School, Priyanka continues to draw on her time in remote classrooms to strengthen delivery of literacy and numeracy initiatives across her school.
