Across Queensland, our regional communities offer a diverse range of personal and professional opportunities. Beginning and experienced teachers make a vital contribution to our regional state schools and communities across the state and are supported by a range of incentives and benefits, as well as having access to professional development and career progression.

Regional incentives
Teachers commencing or continuing their teaching careers in regional communities in 2024 and 2025 may be eligible for the following financial incentives.
- Regional Attraction and Retention payment—payment of $900 to permanent or temporary state school teachers working in eligible high priority regional locations in Queensland in 2024 and 2025.
- Regional Recognition of Service payment—$1,200 for state school teachers who remain in eligible high priority regional locations for the 2024 and 2025 school year.

Payments and your tax
Eligible teachers do not need to apply for this payment as it will be paid to you via our payroll system.
Please note that these incentive payments are subject to taxation. This means that the amount will be added to the assessable income on your teacher payment summary, and you will pay income tax on the amount.
