One of the benefits of employment with the Queensland Department of Education is our ability to support teachers to relocate to new communities and locations across the state, that align with their professional and personal needs.
Our transfer and mobility processes provide permanent teachers with the opportunity to seek relocation to one of their preferred locations after a minimum service period in one school, when opportunities for career progression arise across the year and when family responsibilities necessitate a move to a different community.
With more than 1,260
state school locations across the state, the opportunities for transfer and relocation within and across each of our
education regions is well worth exploring. Relocating to rural and remote communities can provide access to a range of additional financial incentives for teachers and their families including access to subsided housing, as well as unique personal and professional opportunities.

Transfer and mobility processes
We can support you to relocate to a preferred location and continue teaching in a Queensland state school in a number of ways.
The most common of these is the teacher transfer process, which enables teachers to apply and be prioritised for relocation based on a range of factors including service in rural, remote and regional communities.
Teachers considering a transfer are encouraged to speak with their principal to confirm their eligibility and discussion options that may be available to them.
Current teachers can access information about the teacher transfer and relocation processes by searching ‘teacher transfer’ on OnePortal.
Classified teaching roles
Principals, Deputy Principals, Heads of Department are considered classified roles. These positions and other classified teaching roles can apply for a relocation/transfer or promotional opportunity.
If you hold a classified role and are considering a promotional opportunity, you are encouraged to speak with your principal or school supervisor about the options that may be available. Information is also available to current teachers on OnePortal.
Relocation assistance
If your application for a transfer or relocation is successful, we will assist you to move into your new school and community, so you can focus on the exciting opportunity ahead.
