About the grant
This grant provides financial assistance to exceptional Year 12 graduates who are commencing an undergraduate teaching degree, also referred to as an
initial teacher education (ITE) program, at a Queensland university or tertiary institution.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must:
- be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia
- successfully complete Year 12 at a Queensland school in the year before commencing your ITE program, or have taken a gap year between graduating secondary school and commencing your ITE program
- achieve an ATAR of 88.75 or higher
- not have already accepted another scholarship or grant from the Department of Education.
Applicants from rural or remote areas must reside within the catchment of a Queensland state school with a transfer rating of between 3 and 7, as per the
Department of Education schools directory.
Financial support you can receive
- General applicants: $2,500
- Rural or remote applicants: $5,000
Please note that grants are paid to successful applicants after confirmation of enrolment in an eligible ITE course.
Use of the grant
You can use the grant to cover expenses related to your studies, such as:
- textbooks and study materials
- technology (e.g. laptop, tablet)
- accommodation and living costs (for rural or remote residents)
How to apply
To apply for the Aspiring Teachers Grant, you will need to submit your application and supporting documents via our online application process.
Supporting documents
- Authority to Release ATAR result.
- Academic/school results for Years 11 (semesters 1 and 2) and 12 (semester 1 only).
- Proof of Australian Citizenship/permanent residency status.
- Tertiary Entrance evidence (where an early offer has been made).
- Resume/Curriculum Vitae.
- Other documents, where applicable:
- Rural and remote applicants must provide proof of residential address (e.g. family rates notice)
- Applicants who have commenced an ITE pathway in conjunction with their senior secondary studies should provide a copy of their results and academic transcript and evidence of continued enrolment in the ITE program.

- Prepare your application, including evidence of your ATAR result and proof of enrolment in an ITE program.
- Submit your application via the online application process before the closing date.
Please note that applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and students who reside in drought-affected communities will be prioritised. Current drought declared regions can be viewed on the Queensland Government’s
drought situation map.
