Applications for the Semester 1 2025 Regional Professional Experience Grant are now open.
Apply now for eligible placements in a Queensland state school during Term 1 (28 January to 4 April 2025) and Term 2 (22 April to 27 June 2025).
If you’re a preservice teacher and will undertake your professional experience placement in a Queensland state school in a regional location, you could receive the Regional Professional Experience Grant, which will provide you with up to $3,400* to assist with placement-related expenses.
This grant is a terrific opportunity for you to experience teaching, living and exploring regional schools and communities, and gain insights into the personal and professional benefits of teaching and living in these communities.

Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for this grant, you must:
- be completing your third or fourth year of an undergraduate
Initial Teacher Education (ITE) program, or a postgraduate ITE program
- be undertaking a compulsory placement that is a minimum of 15 consecutive school days in a
Queensland state school that:
- is at least 2 hours travel (each way) from your current home address to the state school
- has a transfer rating of TR2–TR3
- is located in 1 of the following priority locations:

Please note, if you:
- undertake your placement in a non-state/private school, you aren’t eligible for this grant
- are an international student and reside in Australia, and have permission under Commonwealth Law to study in Australia, you’re eligible to apply for this grant
- are participating in a permission-to-teach (PTT) with the Department of Education, you’re eligible to apply for this grant providing the eligibility criteria (above) is met.

Application process
To apply for our Regional Professional Experience Grant, you’ll need to submit your application and supporting documents via our
online application process.
In addition to completing an online questionnaire, the following documents are to be submitted as part of the online application process:
- confirmation of your placement in a Queensland state school
- confirmation of enrolment in an ITE program
- current academic transcript
- previous placement reports
- valid blue card for working with children
- resume/curriculum vitae

Processing times
We assess and process applications as they are received. Due to the large number of applications received each semester, it may take us up to 6 weeks to provide you with an update on your application for the grant.
Please check your email account regularly – including junk/spam folders – for emails that may include requests for further information to support your application or to provide you with an offer for the grant.
Payment of the grant
If your application is successful, the grant will be provided to you as lump sum following receipt of the required information such as bank details. Payment of the grant will occur as soon as possible, however, it may take up to 4 weeks for you to receive the grant.
We recommend you keep receipts for placement-related expenses and seek financial advice regarding potential tax implications or impact on your income, tax, and/or benefits received/to be paid.
*If you’re an employee of the Department of Education during your placement, the grant will be provided to you with your fortnightly pay and will be taxed.
A condition of payment is to
notify the department of any changes to the approved placement particulars.
