1. Think about what age group and subjects you'd like to teach and decide what type of teacher you would like to become.
2. Find out about the requirements and qualifications needed to teach in Queensland and check this against your current qualifications and experience.
3. Check out the range of initial teacher education programs available to you and decide how you want to complete your degree: full or part-time, on campus or online.
4. Get an idea of what teaching jobs are available, including high priority teaching areas and employment locations.
5. Sign up to our newsletter and follow us on social media to connect with us and stay up to date and in the know.
6. Check your eligibility for scholarships or grants offered by the department.
7. Apply for entry to your preferred teaching degree through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre.
8. Enrol in and complete your initial teacher education program. In the final year of your studies, apply to teach with us and submit your application for teacher registration with the Queensland College of Teachers.

Already have experience as a teacher?

Preservice or initial teacher education programs undertaken in other Australian states or territories and selected countries overseas may be accepted under mutual recognition for teacher registration in Queensland.
