The Kelvin Grove Teacher Education Centre of Excellence (KGTECE) was established to improve teacher preparation in Prep to Year 12 with exposure to rural or remote placements.
The KGTECE is based at Kelvin Grove State College and works closely with the Queensland University of Technology (QUT). The head of the KGTECE is an experienced teacher and has demonstrated high quality coaching and mentoring skills.
The KGTECE program aims to:
- provide a ‘Work Readiness’ professional development program, including a qualified teacher mentor, to prepare teachers for working in the early, middle and senior phases
- provide high quality teachers for rural and remote Queensland state schools.
The KGTECE program is targeted at high quality final year preservice teachers who are interested in working in a Queensland state school with a Transfer Rating of TR4 to TR7.
All preservice teachers in the KGTECE will be matched with experienced teachers who will support and mentor them for up to one year.
Successful completion of the initial teacher education program and the TECE program will ensure an early conditional offer of permanent employment in a state school (rated TR4–TR7) is available if you:
- are committed to teaching in a rural or remote Queensland school – particularly in the Central Queensland, Darling Downs–South West, Far North Queensland or North Queensland Regions
- meet the Department’s minimum criteria for permanent teacher employment.
Successful TECE applicants may also have access to existing
scholarships and grants (where eligible).
