Our Teacher Education Centre of Excellence (TECE) programs provide participants with high quality mentoring and professional development that compliments the final year of their initial teacher education program studies.
This is a program of teaching excellence*, using the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers ‘graduate level’ to provide a consistent application of excellence.
Mount Stuart Cluster – Townsville/Cairns
For high quality preservice teachers with a focus on English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) and or low socio-economic status communities in North Queensland region or Far North Queensland region, visit

Am I eligible?
To be eligible for the TECE program you must:
- Be in your final year of initial teacher education
- Commit over a 12 month period to complete a minimum of 50 additional mentored classroom hours plus 50 additional hours of professional learning. (Delivered by your Head of TECE, experienced teachers and external providers, covering the Australian Professional Standards).
- Be able to demonstrate high quality academic and non-academic capabilities by achieving and maintaining a minimum GPA of 5.5 or higher.
- Be available to commence employment as a teacher in a Queensland State School following successful completion of all the TECE program. (Employment offer is determined by each region based on location and/or subject area).
